Risk of Thrombosis and Bleeding in Urological Surgery

Pharmacological thromboprophylaxis in the peri-operative period involves a trade-off between reduction in venous thromboembolism (VTE) and an increase in bleeding.  The risks VTE and bleeding in the absence of treatment (baseline risk) are, however, uncertain.  By providing best estimates of baseline risk, the ROTBUS project will inform clinicians and patients regarding the trade-off between VTE prevention and bleeding. Our work will also advance standards in systematic reviews of surgical complications.
